Is this the Rise of the side chick??

Hi guys I hope you are all well. It's about that time again, when we start to have one of our more serious debates. Today's post focuses around the new emphasise on the somewhat taboo term, known as the side chick/mistress. In recent years I have always wondered what kind of messages are being portrayed to the young children, and I can't help but feel as though the negative situations are being glorified more and more

Personally I feel as though these negative messages are mostly shown through tv programmes and movies; we all love a bit of TV drama. Two shows that have come under fire recently by many groups upset about what message is being told to the youth, are Scandal and Being Mary Jane. These tv programmes focus on the lives of two successful black women dealing with everyday trials and tribulations; who everyone believes, have it all. They are admirerd In their field of work and revered by many with one issue ... They suck at finding love and a result of this has stuck them in some messy situations.

Both women have a secret that they are not particularly proud of, and that is being the mistress of married men. Some would argue that these shows focus on real life events; Its sad to see that this is the only side of "real life" that they show. I feel as though these shows continoisly glorify getting what you want by any means necessary; including breaking up families. Lets not be naive here, both shows do make for some good tv lol, but it does make me wonder if the producers of these shows have hidden messages. It is to crazy to think that none of these shows ever focus on the positive aspects of womanhood, strength and independence; that women do possess but maybe it makes for bad tv.

How the young females of today relate to these shows is questionable and what does it say overall about married life? Does it put the seed that mistresses are ok, that this is what goes on in marriage? You have to ask yourself, are the producers happily married. Let's face it a lot of young girls do look up to their favourite celebrity as role models, because these are the people who they aspire to be like. If these images are all that they are being shown, will it not have an affect on what they believe is acceptable in life? Which leads us to the question of the day, do today's society glorify the sidechcik?
